What is asthma?
Asthma (bronchial asthma) is a respiratory disease syndrome characterized mainly by difficulty breathing and wheezing in the throat.
Asthma causes the bronchi to constrict, obstructing the flow of air in the lungs. Asthma causes the airways in the lungs to be always in a state of edema, inflammation and irritation. Over a long period of time, the disease will cause the airways to narrow, making it difficult for the patient to breathe, wheezing, and in some cases can cause airway obstruction, which is life-threatening.
According to statistics in the US, every year more than 500,000 people are hospitalized for asthma and up to 5,000 die - second only to cancer. In Vietnam, the number of asthma cases is increasing, especially in young children due to changes in the weather as well as genetic factors.

1. So what are the common symptoms of people with asthma (bronchial asthma)?
– Rapid breathing: this is the first and most common symptom of asthma, people with the disease will have signs of rapid breathing, shortness of breath, especially when doing heavy exercise such as climbing hills, climbing stairs or carrying heavy objects, they will breathe continuously. When in the evening when the air is thin, even though they do not exercise vigorously, they will still breathe faster than normal people.
– Wheezing: This is a symptom that appears at night, when sleeping, the patient will make a wheezing, whistling sound when breathing. Of course, the patient himself will not see this symptom, so relatives or friends need to observe to help detect the disease early.
– Cough: almost any respiratory disease will have a cough symptom, in people with asthma, the cough can last a long time, often increasing in frequency when the dew falls at night and early in the morning when the weather is cold, if in winter the dry weather will also cause more coughing. While exercising with physical exercises, coughing often occurs.
– Shortness of breath: the patient has shortness of breath and often has difficulty breathing, when sitting and standing, they need to use their hands to support their chest and then open their mouth to breathe quickly.
– Chest heaviness: this is a symptom that appears along with the above symptoms, when coughing, or when exhaling, the chest feels heavy as if something is pressing on it.
2. Causes of asthma (bronchial asthma)
According to Oriental medicine, the cause of asthma is due to the 3 organs of the Spleen, Lungs, and Kidneys being weakened, not in harmony, causing the disease specifically:
+ Lung Organ: The Lungs have the main function of importing and exporting air. Lung disorders cause disordered entry and exit of air, causing difficulty breathing. Therefore, in bronchial asthma, typical symptoms are difficulty breathing, difficulty breathing out, cyclical difficulty breathing, and shortness of breath attacks when exposed to stimulating factors such as wind, cold, dust, strange smells, stress, fatigue, etc.
+ Spleen: Has the function of transporting and transforming food. When you worry too much, it disrupts the function of the spleen. The spleen's food metabolism function is disrupted, causing phlegm. Phlegm stops in the lungs and causes blockage, causing difficulty breathing.
+ Kidney: In charge of absorbing Qi. Kidney dysfunction leads to a weak body from birth; therefore, the Kidney cannot absorb Qi, so the Qi reverses, causing difficulty breathing.
In addition, asthma is also hereditary; people with eczema, hives, allergic rhinitis or other allergic diseases are at risk of asthma.
3. Herbs that help support the most effective treatment of asthma and bronchial asthma.
Similar to Western medicine, the theory of Oriental medicine has long affirmed that environmental factors are the cause of asthma: External evils: wind-cold, wind-heat invade the lungs, causing the Lung Qi to be blocked and rise and fall irregularly, and reverse to form asthma.
