Bronchial asthma is a type of respiratory disease. When it is not suitable, the bronchial mucosa swells, narrowing the airways, making it difficult for the patient to breathe. The muscles around the airways can also contract, making breathing more difficult. The patient feels like the chest is being filled, breathing is very difficult, accompanied by wheezing and coughing. The patient cannot lie on his back but must sit with his mouth open to breathe. If the disease is too severe, sweat will pour out profusely, the lips and tongue will turn purple, the person will feel restless and restless...

An asthma attack lasts 10-15 minutes or longer, then gradually decreases. Attacks often occur at night, when the weather turns cold, the weather changes, or cyclical attacks.

Other factors such as central nervous system discomfort, hormonal changes, weather, climate, humid environment ... all affect bronchial asthma.

What should people with bronchial asthma eat?

- Need to eat a lot of clean vegetables, tubers, fruits containing a lot of Vitamin C (need to meet up to 2g of vitamin C per day) such as oranges, lemons, grapefruit, kiwi, cherry, guava, mango, dragon fruit, spinach, celery, bell peppers, red amaranth, jute, Malabar spinach, green cabbage, tomatoes ...

- Should eat a lot of foods rich in beta carotene found in gac fruit, pumpkin, carrots, papaya, sweet potatoes, squash, spinach, yellow and orange bell peppers ..., and vitamin E found in vegetable oils; beans, nuts, can also help preserve & speed up breathing function.

- Should eat foods rich in omega 3 fats can reduce inflammation, reduce the risk of choking, wheezing. Foods rich in omega 3 are salmon, herring, mackerel, oily nuts, also have the ability to help prevent hereditary respiratory diseases in children.

- People with bronchial diseases should also eat more foods such as onions, garlic, turmeric, chili, mustard sauce, broccoli, brown rice, herbs, to increase resistance, reduce phlegm, protect and clear the airways.

- Every day should have a fairly complete menu; balance the amount of essential nutrients, especially pay attention to the amount of protein in meat, fish, eggs, milk, beans (providing at least 1g protein/kg body weight/day). The proportion of fat in the diet must account for about 40 - 45% of the total energy needed each day. Carbohydrates in the diet also help increase airway ventilation.

What should people with asthma not eat?

- Limit salt (less than 6g of salt/day). Avoid foods that produce gas and cause bloating, such as carbonated drinks, apples, avocados, watermelon, roasted peanuts, cauliflower, cabbage, corn, onions, pickled vegetables or pickles...

- People with asthma should avoid foods that can cause allergies such as shrimp, crab, eggs, beef, chicken, herring, tuna, shrimp, clams, silkworm pupae, bamboo shoots, peanuts, cashews, bean sprouts, pineapple, beer, alcohol...

In addition, it is necessary to have a moderate exercise regimen, practice qigong, yoga, tai chi, daily body massage, which is also quite useful for all people with respiratory asthma. At the same time, you need to keep yourself in a comfortable state of mind, do not worry or be overly anxious.
