HIGH LIVER ENZYMES
High liver enzymes are an extremely common disease, according to unofficial statistics in Vietnam, 6 out of 10 people have high liver enzymes. However, symptoms to help us identify the disease are very difficult and often the clinical manifestations of the disease are very few.
Symptoms of high liver enzymes are very poor. Patients only feel slight pain in the right hypochondrium, mild abdominal distension, and dilation of microvessels in the neck, face, etc. In many cases, even though liver enzymes are very high, there are no clinical symptoms and the patient still works and studies normally.
In fact, high liver enzymes are an enzyme located in liver cells, produced by the liver, also known as alanine aminotransferases (ALT). Every time a liver cell dies due to aging, a certain amount of liver enzymes is released at a concentration of less than 40U/l. If this index is higher, it means that your liver is damaged.
Causes of high liver enzymes
– Hepatitis diseases: whether you have hepatitis A, B or C at a mild or severe level, it is also a factor that causes liver enzymes to suddenly increase. Most cases of increased liver enzymes due to hepatitis become chronic.
– Excessive alcohol use: everyone is advised that alcohol is extremely toxic to the liver. When entering the body, it quickly and gradually destroys liver cells, causing liver enzymes to increase. If there are no measures to limit the use of these toxic substances, after the disease increases liver enzymes, the patient is at risk of facing cirrhosis and incurable liver cancer.
– Food additives: most commonly found in processed foods and canned foods. These all contain large amounts of preservatives, flavorings, colorants, etc. These substances are difficult to digest when entering the body, most of which accumulate, increasing the burden on the liver and stomach.
– Dirty food: Professor, Doctor, Doctor Nguyen Khanh Trach – Vice President of Vietnam Digestive Association: “Toxic substances in dirty food when entering the body will strongly attack liver cells, through many different pathways will cause the kupffer immune cells to overwork, it will cause inflammation that directly destroys the liver leading to high liver enzymes”.
– Suffering from other diseases: such as bile problems (cholangitis, gallstones, ...), liver abscess, malaria.
Are high liver enzymes dangerous?
High liver enzymes are a sign that the liver is damaged and damaged. In case of continuing to maintain bad habits (drinking alcohol, smoking, eating greasy foods, ...) liver cells can be destroyed, leading to hepatitis, fatty liver and cirrhosis.
In addition, liver enzyme index is also a sign predicting mortality rate in people with problems in this organ. Therefore, you should proactively build a reasonable diet and lifestyle to control liver enzymes and prevent dangerous complications.
Measures to treat high liver enzymes
High liver enzymes for a long time can seriously affect health and cause dangerous complications. Therefore, immediately after testing, you should apply the following measures to reduce liver enzymes:
1. Absolutely do not use alcohol
Alcohol is considered the main cause of increased liver enzymes and digestive tract diseases. Therefore, stopping alcohol use can reduce the level of damage to the liver, stomach and intestines.
If possible, you should completely abstain from other alcoholic beverages. Long-term use of alcoholic beverages can also cause degeneration of nerve cells, hyperplasia of the esophageal mucosa, and increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
2. Use the drug correctly
Using the correct dosage of the drug can reduce the risk of liver and kidney damage. In addition, you should avoid drinking alcohol and alcoholic beverages while using these drugs.
In case of high liver enzymes or liver and kidney diseases, you should inform your doctor to use the drug in the form of topical treatment. Compared to oral form, topical drugs are rarely metabolized through the liver and kidneys. This can limit the condition of increased liver enzymes.
3. Exercise every day
Doctors say that exercise can have a positive impact on the metabolic and excretory functions of the liver. Moreover, regular exercise also helps the body consume fat accumulated in the liver and effectively control weight.
You can walk 30 minutes/day or practice yoga, swimming, jogging, cycling, etc. to improve your health, protect your heart and reduce liver enzymes.
4. Lose weight
If your liver enzymes increase due to obesity, you should lose weight as soon as possible. In addition to affecting the liver, obesity also increases the risk of cardiovascular, bone and kidney diseases.
However, you should avoid losing weight by fasting because it can cause weakness and fatigue. To lose weight properly, you should build a low-fat diet and exercise at an appropriate intensity. In case of excessive weight, you should see a doctor for instructions on a reasonable diet and exercise regimen.
5. Build a reasonable diet
Diet is a factor that directly affects liver function. With high liver enzymes, you can improve it by building a scientific diet.
Studies show that a reasonable diet can maintain stable liver enzymes and reduce the risk of other digestive diseases.
Build a diet for people with high liver enzymes:
Add more green vegetables to enhance metabolism and support liver detoxification. In addition, the fiber and vitamin content in green vegetables also helps control excess fat in the liver.
Increase foods rich in vitamin C such as pomegranates, tangerines, grapefruits, strawberries, oranges, etc. Vitamin C has the effect of enhancing the immune system, supporting the recovery of damaged liver cells and maintaining the function of the digestive organs.
Eat foods rich in antioxidants (Omega 3, vitamin B, zinc, Flavonoids). Antioxidants can prevent liver cell degeneration and promote the function of this organ. Foods rich in antioxidants, including salmon, nuts, fruits, etc.
Make sure to provide 2 - 3 liters of water/day. Adequate water intake can support the liver's detoxification process and reduce the risk of fat accumulation in this organ.
Limit foods rich in cholesterol such as beef, greasy foods, snacks, fast food, etc.
Replace protein sources from red meat with vegetable protein (mushrooms, beans) and protein from white meat (frog, chicken, fish, etc.)
Practice the habit of eating bland foods, avoid adding too much salt, sugar and seasoning powder.
Replace animal fat with vegetable oils such as olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, etc. to limit the increase in cholesterol and liver enzymes.
6. Using traditional medicine
In case of high liver enzymes and difficulty in recovering, your doctor may ask you to use some liver enzyme-lowering drugs. In addition, you can also take advantage of herbs that have natural liver enzyme lowering effects such as wormwood, milk thistle, artichoke, ca gai leo, etc.
However, instead of applying such temporary methods, patients should seek out specific remedies to ensure longer-term and more sustainable effectiveness. Compared to Western medicine, Eastern medicine to treat high liver enzymes is also the choice preferred by many patients because it is safe, benign and has a high ability to cure the disease.
In Eastern medicine, there is a saying "The liver governs the tendons and muscles, the kidneys govern the bones and joints", so to have a healthy body and soft, smooth skin, you need to recognize the voice inside your own body. The liver-cooling remedy to help detoxify the liver is a very good method to help your body eliminate toxins from the body, helping the body become healthier and healthier as well as helping your skin to be whiter and smoother more.
