Common Treatment Methods for Bronchitis
Western Medicine Treatments for Bronchitis
Many patients with bronchitis believe that antibiotics are the only way to treat the condition. However, this is a misconception, as antibiotics are only effective for bronchitis caused by bacterial infections.
Some medications commonly prescribed for bronchitis include:
Expectorants: Help thin mucus and make it easier to expel through coughing.
Anti-inflammatory drugs: These may contain corticosteroids and are taken in oral, nebulized, or inhaled forms.
Antibiotics: Depending on the condition and the patient's immunity, antibiotics such as ceftriaxone, augmentin, or benzylpenicillin may be prescribed.
Antiviral drugs: Often used for treating influenza A virus-related bronchitis.

Note: The medications for bronchitis in Western medicine have different pharmacological components, and patients should consult a doctor before using any medication. Self-medicating with incorrect dosages or overuse of Western medications can lead to serious complications, such as drug resistance, liver damage, and gastric ulcers.
Support for Treating Bronchitis According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), bronchitis is classified under the conditions of Khái Thấu (coughing and wheezing) and Đàm Ẩm (phlegm and fluid retention). According to TCM, the external causes of the disease are primarily due to the invasion of tà khí (pathogenic energy) from factors like wind-cold and wind-heat. These elements disrupt the function of the lungs, leading to obstruction and imbalance, which causes coughing and excessive phlegm. Additionally, in the fall season, táo tà (dryness) may invade the lungs, damaging lung fluids, causing sore throat, and dry cough.
Internally, the disease often arises from the weakened functions of the lungs, spleen, and kidneys. Cold and dampness damage the spleen, leading to phlegm production, while internal heat from the stomach can harm the lungs, leading to deficient lung and kidney yin, which in turn weakens both the vital energy (khí) and body fluids (tân dịch), resulting in coughing and expectoration of phlegm.
