Goodbye mouth ulcers, mouth ulcers, blisters on the tongue, heat in the body
"Mouth ulcers" are one or more ulcers or blisters on the tongue in the mouth. Folklore often calls it "mouth ulcers", because the disease is always accompanied by burning and pain.
Causes of mouth ulcers
Mouth ulcers start with an itchy and burning sensation in the mucous membranes of the cheeks, or on the edge or underside of the tongue, gums, lips, floor of the mouth, palate, etc. Then one or several ulcers, shallow or deep, with clear boundaries, the mucous membranes around the ulcers are red and swollen. Pain is a typical and constant symptom, so it often causes discomfort when speaking and chewing food, especially when eating spicy or salty foods. The disease usually lasts for 7-10 days and then heals on its own. When cured, it usually does not leave scars, but it often recurs, significantly affecting daily life and work.
Current medicine has not yet clearly identified the causes and pathogenesis of mouth ulcers. However, there are a number of factors considered to be the cause of the disease such as:
– Malnutrition or improper nutrition, leading to a lack of vitamin C, PP, B6, B12, zinc, etc.
– Due to endocrine disorders in women, during menstruation, pregnancy, menopause;
Bacterial or viral infections when the oral mucosa is damaged by bone punctures, teeth biting;
– Due to digestive diseases, genetics, nervous tension, certain medications, etc.
– The main treatment method is pain relief, because it is the most uncomfortable symptom. In addition, some mouthwashes, topical ointments and some systemic medications are also used.
How effective is traditional medicine in treating mouth ulcers?
Mouth ulcers, in Oriental medicine, are called “Khau sang”. The name “Khau sang” first appeared in the Internal Classic, the oldest classic theoretical book of Oriental medicine more than 2,000 years ago. In later ancient medical books, the disease was also mentioned with other names, such as "Khâu dương", "Khâu phá", "Khâu cam", "Khâu văn sang", "Nha sang" ...
According to the concept of Oriental medicine, "Khâu sang" is a localized disease (occurring only in the oral cavity), but is related to the activities of the organs and viscera in the body, especially the two organs of the heart and spleen: Heat in the heart and spleen
"Heat in the heart and spleen" (heat accumulated in the heart and spleen) often causes mouth ulcers, because the heart communicates with the tongue (opening the orifice) and the spleen communicates with the mouth.
Symptoms: There are relatively many ulcers of different sizes on the oral mucosa. On the surface of the ulcers there is a pale yellow secretion, the mucosa around the ulcers is congested and bright red, accompanied by burning and pain. Often accompanied by a feeling of restlessness, insomnia, bad breath, thirst, constipation, yellow urine. Red tongue, yellow tongue coating. Rapid pulse (fast - over 90 times/minute).
Yin deficiency, excess fire
“Yin deficiency, excess fire” (defective yin fluid, not strong enough to balance and restrain yang energy), causing “empty fire” to rise up, often causing mouth ulcers.
Symptoms: mouth pain, relatively few ulcers, usually only 1-2, but easy to recur, or one ulcer heals and another ulcer appears, continuously. The ulcer is pale white, the mucosa around the ulcer is only slightly swollen, pale red or not red. The tongue is red and dry; little tongue coating; The pulse is thin and rapid (small, fast).
The prescription includes precious medicinal herbs such as raw gypsum, raw rehmannia, gardenia, coptis, scutellaria, phellodendron, ophiopogon, trichosanthes, and achyranthes, which have the effect of clearing heat, cooling blood, and detoxifying according to the following mechanism:

Oral ulcers are benign and can heal on their own after about 1-2 weeks. However, having to endure the burning pain for a long time is not easy. There are a number of ways you can reduce the appearance of ulcers:
– Avoid foods that irritate the mouth: acidic fruits such as pineapple, grapefruit, oranges or lemons. Or nuts, potato chips or spicy foods.
– Limit talking while chewing food to reduce accidental bites.
– Reduce stress.
