COMMON TREATMENTS FOR BRONCHITIS TODAY
Western Medicine Treatments for Bronchitis
Many patients with bronchitis mistakenly believe that only antibiotics can cure the disease. However, this is a misconception because antibiotics are effective only when bronchitis is caused by bacteria.
Some common medications prescribed by doctors for bronchitis include:
Expectorants: Help thin mucus and expel it when coughing.
Anti-inflammatory drugs: These include corticosteroids in oral, nebulized, or inhaled forms.
Antibiotics: Depending on the condition and the patient's health, antibiotics may be prescribed. Some common types include ceftriaxone, augmentin, benzylpenicillin, etc.
Antiviral medications: These are typically used for treating influenza A.

Supporting Bronchitis Treatment According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Principles
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), bronchitis is classified under the conditions of Khái Thấu (cough and phlegm) and Đàm Ẩm (dampness and phlegm). According to TCM, the external causes of the disease are mainly due to the invasion of tà khí (pathogenic energy) such as phong hàn (wind-cold) and phong nhiệt (wind-heat). These factors cause stagnation of phế khí (lung qi), leading to an imbalance in the lung’s function of regulating the ascending and descending of qi, resulting in symptoms like coughing and excessive phlegm. Additionally, in the autumn season, táo tà (dryness) can invade the lungs from the outside, damaging the lung’s fluid, causing symptoms like a sore throat and dry cough.
Internal factors in TCM are usually due to the dysfunction of the lungs, spleen, and kidneys, or the presence of hàn thấp (cold-damp) that harms the spleen and generates phlegm, leading to coughing and phlegm. Or it could be due to vị trường tích nhiệt (accumulated heat in the stomach), which leads to lung damage, causing phế thận âm hư (deficiency of lung and kidney yin), thereby injuring both qi and body fluids, resulting in coughing and phlegm.
The Recipe: Quế Chi Hoàng Kỳ Thang (Cinnamon and Astragalus Decoction) has the following effects:
Đại Táo: Tonifies the spleen, enhances qi, nourishes the stomach, generates body fluids, and harmonizes the qi. It is primarily used to tonify the spleen and lungs, relieve coughs, and ease phlegm.
Quế Chi: Promotes sweating, relieves muscles, warms the meridians, and opens the yang. It is used to treat coughing and phlegm by expelling moisture and stopping coughs.
Bạch Thược: Eliminates phlegm and helps to relieve coughing.
Hoàng Kỳ: Tonifies the qi, lifts the yang, and supports urination. It is used to treat lung qi deficiency, leading to cough, shortness of breath, and chronic bronchitis.
Gừng: Dissolves phlegm and stops coughing. It is useful for chronic bronchitis with thick phlegm.
The product MTA Viên Nang Phế Quản is manufactured using the Quế Chi Hoàng Kỳ Thang formula to support the treatment of bronchitis. The product is licensed by the Ministry of Health and is available for nationwide distribution.
