Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is a common joint disease that not only causes pain and discomfort but also limits mobility, negatively affecting the quality of life for those affected. Early intervention and treatment can help patients manage symptoms, prevent serious complications, and maintain joint function for many years.
Osteoarthritis can lead to serious complications such as:
Stiff joints
Limited mobility, making it difficult for the patient to walk
Joint deformity, with limbs becoming bent or twisted
Muscle atrophy
Paralysis, disability, and loss of the ability to work
Symptoms of Osteoarthritis: Painful and Limited Mobility
Depending on the stage of the disease, patients may experience different symptoms of osteoarthritis.
Early Stage: The pain caused by osteoarthritis is usually dull and not intense. Many people confuse it with general muscle and joint pain due to overexertion or physical labor.
Joint pain occurs when the patient moves or suddenly changes position.
The pain is focused on the affected joint.
A crackling sound may occur at the joint when moving.
Advanced Stage: Pain gradually increases in intensity, along with joint complications if not treated properly.
The affected joint experiences continuous pain, which may occur suddenly or persist for a long time.
Swelling and inflammation appear around the affected joint.
Complications such as joint deformity or joint effusion (fluid accumulation in the joint) may occur.

Causes of Osteoarthritis
There are many causes of osteoarthritis, with the following common factors:
Natural Aging Process: As people age, the aging process accelerates. Cartilage cells lose their ability to regenerate and reproduce, causing the cartilage to weaken and lose its elasticity.
Congenital Factors: Some individuals are born with deformities that alter the normal pressure distribution on the joints and spine, placing excess stress on the joints, which accelerates the aging process.
Genetics: Those with a tendency for premature aging or who inherit weak bones from their parents are at a higher risk of developing osteoarthritis.
Secondary Deformities: Various bone and joint diseases, accidents, and occupational injuries can lead to joint damage and osteoarthritis complications.
Obesity: Uncontrolled weight gain puts significant pressure on the joints, leading to rapid joint degeneration.
Hormonal Factors: A deficiency in female hormones during menopause, as well as conditions like diabetes and osteoporosis, can increase the risk of osteoarthritis.
Methods for Treating Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis should be detected and treated as early as possible to enhance joint function recovery. Currently, there are several treatment methods, with the most common being Western medicine, Traditional medicine, and folk remedies.

Treating Osteoarthritis with Western Medicine
Western medicine focuses on pain relief, muscle relaxation, anti-inflammatory treatments, and reducing swelling in the affected joints to improve joint function. The use of painkillers, anti-inflammatory medications, and drugs to reduce swelling is common.
In severe cases, where complications have developed, doctors may recommend surgery, including preventive surgery, conservative surgery, or joint replacement. Surgery is often expensive and carries risks.
Additionally, physical therapy methods, such as those involving high-frequency waves, heat, and electricity, can help alleviate pain.
Supporting Osteoarthritis Treatment with Traditional Medicine
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), osteoarthritis is categorized as a condition of "Tý," which involves the stagnation of blood and energy (Qi) in the meridians, causing blockages and leading to sharp, aching pain in the joints, fatigue, and general weakness.
To treat osteoarthritis, Traditional medicine focuses on the following principles:
Unblocking meridians and promoting blood circulation.
Dispelling heat, expelling wind, eliminating cold, and removing dampness.
Strengthening the body and boosting the immune system.
Nourishing the liver and kidneys, and supporting joint health.
Alleviating joint pain.
The herbal formula includes valuable ingredients such as Du Huo, Mulberry Mistletoe, Tian Jiao, White Peony, Xuan Kong, Feng Feng, Eucommia, Achyranthes and Ginseng, which work to strengthen the liver and kidneys, expel wind and cold, tonify fluids, eliminate dampness, promote blood circulation, and enhance joint health. Specifically:
Du Huo: Dispels wind, expels cold, reduces dampness, alleviates pain, and is beneficial for people with rheumatic pain in the joints.
White Peony: Calms the liver, relieves pain, nourishes blood, and treats muscle pain.
Mulberry Mistletoe: Removes wind and dampness, strengthens joints, and is used for back pain and knee weakness due to kidney and liver deficiencies.
Tian Jiao: Primarily treats numbness, stiff tendons, and joint stiffness.
Xuan Kong: Promotes the movement of Qi and blood, expels wind, and relieves pain and stiffness.
Feng Feng: Has pain-relieving properties.
Ginseng: Greatly tonifies Qi, generates fluids, calms the mind, and strengthens the spleen.
Using the essence of these herbal formulas, MTA Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company has developed the MTA Dưỡng Cốt product, which supports joint health, alleviates pain, and helps reduce inflammation in the joints. It is highly effective for individuals suffering from joint pain, including shoulder and neck stiffness.
